Teaching through Play

Teaching through Play

Dinosaur World is one of the children's favorite play areas. It seems like simple play from a distance, but we have incorporated the various developmental areas; mathematics, social and language development. Children learn to count, subtract and add dinosaurs. Children learn to construct and work in a group to role play. Children have even learned to say the different types of dinosaurs and group them using descriptive words and differentiating features. There are so many opportunities to extend their learning. An example of this was when a child said  "Where did these Dinosaurs live?", we pulled out the Globe and located the areas in which Dinosaur remains have been found and where they were believed to have lived on our Earth. So the next time you watch your child just play think about how you could enrich their learning by recognising learning opportunities.
